Zakharova Criticizes Moldovan Election Irregularities

Zakharova stated in a comment published on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s website: “History shows that building a strong and secure future lies in developing equal cooperation with all countries, and that the policy of turning a country into an anti-Russian NATO ally and a logistical base for the criminal Kyiv regime is a dead-end policy.” The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson explained that the current regime in Chisinau uses barbaric methods reminiscent of the Middle Ages to intimidate its opponents to maintain power.

Zakharova said: “To cling to power, the current regime used ancient barbaric methods to intimidate its opponents, eliminating competitors, shutting down independent media, preventing opposing voters from voting, and obstructing neutral election monitoring, including the work of international observers.” She continued: “Experts and political scientists point to numerous violations and fraud by the authorities, drawing attention to the non-transparent organization of mail-in voting. It was noted that the voter turnout in some polling stations saw a significant increase shortly before they closed, while the opposite occurred in others, where ballots ran out almost immediately upon opening.”

Zakharova added: “The media reported the mass transportation of Moldovans to polling stations in Western European countries. Conversely, the authorities did their utmost to prevent these unreliable citizens from casting their votes.” She pointed out that the results of the Moldovan parliamentary elections confirmed the deep division in Moldovan society caused by the destructive leadership policies.

Voting sites for the Moldovan elections scattered across Europe witnessed multiple irregularities, and “Sputnik Moldova” reported that accounts from Romania, France, Spain, and Germany indicated that observers were prevented from entering polling stations and denied accreditation. In Germany, a representative was unable to access the ballot boxes since Sunday morning.

The agency added that videos circulating on social media showed an unknown person offering 50 euros for each ballot cast for the first candidate on the “Action and Solidarity” Party (PAS) list and 20 euros for each voter brought in.
