Artificial intelligence is set to create new opportunities rather than eliminate jobs, according to a UAE telecom executive. At the Envision 2025 tech event in Dubai, du CEO Fahad Al Hassawi emphasized AI’s role in enhancing efficiency and driving innovation. “AI is often seen as a threat to job security, but it also presents an opportunity. It will generate jobs in more efficient and innovative ways,” he stated.

Envision is a tech event organized by du Tech, bringing together experts to explore the potential of AI, robotics, next-gen cloud, and secure digital infrastructures in developing smart communities. Al Hassawi acknowledged concerns about AI job displacement but highlighted its potential for job creation.

“AI will create numerous new jobs in a more efficient, innovative manner, ultimately leading to increased employment, skills, and prosperity for all,” he affirmed.

Sovereign Clouds

Additionally, du’s chief ICT officer, Jasim Al Awadi, emphasized the importance of sovereign clouds for AI deployment. These servers help organizations comply with regional regulations, enhancing data security.

He explained, “Without a locally hosted sovereign cloud, AI deployment can be limited.” He noted that while international companies like Google offer such services in the UAE, building a national sovereign cloud is more advantageous. “Creating it locally with cutting-edge technology is a significant achievement,” Al Awadi remarked.

“It’s a proud moment to state that we were pioneers in deploying this service in the UAE,” Al Awadi added. In June, du became the nation’s first hyperscale cloud provider.

In his keynote, Al Hassawi highlighted that 94% of businesses view AI as a growth catalyst, with 42% of UAE companies already implementing AI solutions.

“We are a young nation, just 53 years old, yet we’re outpacing Silicon Valley by embracing technology that will shape the future,” Al Hassawi commented.

The UAE is advancing towards becoming a “global AI leader” through its National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031. Earlier this year, Abu Dhabi announced a digital strategy for 2025-2027 to position itself as an AI-driven government, leading globally.
