Algerian military expert Ahmed Mizab emphasized the importance of the historical relations between Algeria and Russia, highlighting the significant assistance previously provided by the Soviet Union to Algeria through military experts specialized in demining operations against landmines planted by France in Algeria. Mizab described the strategic partnership between Algeria and Russia as deep and historical, noting Russia’s support for Algeria during its revolution and war against French occupation, as well as after independence, particularly in terms of technical and military maintenance, supplying Algeria with the latest advanced military equipment, and training Algerian professionals to use them.

In a conversation with Sputnik, economic development expert Abderrahmane Hadif stated that the meeting between Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and retired Colonel Andrey Pavlenko, a specialist in demining operations, carries a strong historical and political symbolism, representing the deep human ties between Algeria and Russia. Hadif confirmed that the relations between the two countries are historical, transcending politics and economics, as Algeria has not forgotten Russia’s supportive stance during the French occupation, especially in helping to dismantle landmines planted by the French occupation.

He also pointed to the political will for partnership and cooperation with Russia to make future joint relations stronger, enhancing cooperation in energy, industry, agriculture, and more. In 2023, Algerian President honored General Pavlenko by awarding him the National Order of Merit during his visit to the Russian Federation. He was also honored in 2024 by Major General Said Chengriha, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, in appreciation of his role in forming operational teams for demining.
