Manchester United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, emphasized the need for his team to maintain the urgency they displayed against Chelsea on Saturday to continue their winning streak.

Having secured just one victory this season prior to the match, following their worst league finish since their 1973-74 relegation, Amorim faced significant pressure with Chelsea’s Premier League visit.

The early dismissal of Chelsea’s goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez, provided United with the opportunity to claim a crucial win through goals by Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro. From the outset, the performance exhibited a level of intensity missing in recent games.

“There are times when we feel the urgency to achieve results,” Amorim stated. “Today we won, which is great, but we must remember to return that urgency to our gameplay.

“Winning the next match is paramount. At this prestigious club, we can’t afford to feel complacent after a good game. Maintaining that urgency is crucial for the coming week.”

In typical United style, the team complicated matters despite being 2-0 up with a man advantage in the rainy Manchester conditions.

Casemiro’s red card late in the first half gave Chelsea a chance, with Trevoh Chalobah’s header ensuring a tense finish at Old Trafford.

“We demonstrated that even when things are going well, we find a way to complicate things,” Amorim said. “But we endured together in the end. Looking at the match, we deserved the win.

“We might have been overzealous, making tackles we shouldn’t have. It’s difficult to say, as that pressure affects our younger players at times.

“Perhaps it’s because Casemiro cares deeply. We score, and then he makes that tackle. Sometimes it’s not just pressure; it’s wanting it too much in the moment.”
