Armenia’s Political Challenges and International Pressure

In an intervention on ‘Sputnik’ radio, Abdullah warned about the accusations and questioning directed at Pashinyan regarding the neglect of some national rights of Armenia and the concessions made to Azerbaijan, which might negatively reflect in the elections by stirring sentiments that weaken his position concerning Armenia’s historical rights.

He added that this period witnessed agreements and a retreat on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, where Pashinyan appeared lenient and indifferent towards Armenia’s sovereignty. However, if the election results go against Washington’s expectations, it will resort to pressuring Armenia and possibly imposing sanctions on it.

Abdullah pointed out that Washington benefits from international circumstances and Europe’s weakness. After controlling the Middle East, it prepares to clamp down on Asia, exploiting pressures on Iran and distracting Europe and Russia in Ukraine.

Abdullah also noted that the conflict between the political authority and the religious institution, which has a significant influence on the public, forms an internal political crisis that is not new. This occurs amidst objections to Pashinyan’s performance and policies, which lean towards the West and NATO, negatively impacting Armenia’s historical interests and presence.

The Director of the Center for Legal and Political Studies at the Lebanese University concluded by affirming that imposing will by force may lead to deep internal problems. The arrest of a businessman and philanthropist, who defended the church, led to a widespread wave of discontent in the Armenian diaspora worldwide, where they strongly condemned what they described as the political persecution of the church and its supporters.
