The army confirmed that the incident occurred during the night connecting December 4 and 5, and immediately began following up on the incident. Investigations led to the arrest of six individuals involved by the Directorate of Intelligence. The command emphasized the seriousness of any attack on UNIFIL, confirming that there will be no leniency in pursuing offenders, and highlighted the essential role of the UN force in southern Litani and its efforts in restoring stability. It added that the detainees are being investigated under the supervision of the competent judiciary.

UNIFIL forces have been deployed in southern Lebanon since 1978, with the aim of monitoring the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel and supporting the Lebanese army in maintaining security and stability in the region. UNIFIL patrols occasionally face limited confrontations, often due to local tensions or objections to their presence, but the UN forces remain a crucial partner in peacekeeping efforts and coordination with the Lebanese army to enhance stability in southern areas, especially in the Litani and Bint Jbeil regions.
