Aurora Sightings During Geomagnetic Storms

Illustration for: Aurora Sightings During Geomagnetic Storms

Aurora sightings occur during a geomagnetic storm in areas of the Earth’s surface, where locals can watch the sky light up with colors resembling gemstones. Most auroras occur in the region known as the auroral zone, defined by latitudes 3° and 6° and longitudes 10° and 20° from the Earth’s magnetic poles at all local times (or longitudes), and they appear clearly at night in the dark.
