Netanyahu published a statement on the “X” platform, stating: “History will remember him as a weak politician who abandoned Israel and betrayed the Jews of Australia,” referring to Albanese’s stance supporting the recognition of the Palestinian state.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced yesterday, Monday, the cancellation of visas for Australian diplomats working with the Palestinian Authority. This step is a reaction to Australia’s announcement of its intention to recognize the state. The ministry officially informed the Australian ambassador to Israel, Ralph King, of this decision, according to Israeli media.

The statement quoted Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon, saying: “Amid rising anti-Semitism in Australia, including attacks on Jews and their institutions, the Australian government chooses to fuel these sentiments with false accusations against Israeli officials, claiming they pose a threat to public security and harm Muslims in Australia.”

Albanese had announced, the Monday before last, his country’s intention to recognize the State of Palestine at the next United Nations General Assembly meeting. Albanese said at a press conference: “Australia will recognize the State of Palestine. Australia will recognize the Palestinian people’s right to their own state, based on the commitments it has received from the Palestinian Authority.”

The Australian Prime Minister affirmed that the situation in Gaza “has surpassed the world’s worst fears.” He noted that “one of the pivotal moments that led us to the current situation is the historic declaration issued by Arab countries after the two-state solution conference, chaired by Saudi Arabia and France in New York.”
