BRICS Group Discusses Sanctions and Trade Policies

The website of the Iranian president’s press office quoted him as saying: “The BRICS group can develop a joint mechanism to support its members in facing illegal unilateral sanctions and to continue developing their economies without being subject to unfair political pressures.” Earlier today, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, during an extraordinary BRICS summit held at his initiative, confirmed that secondary sanctions hinder the strengthening of trade relations between countries.

Brazil is hosting an extraordinary virtual summit of BRICS countries today, Monday, at the president’s initiative to discuss the trade policy of U.S. President Donald Trump. The BRICS group was founded in 2006 by China, India, and Brazil, and South Africa joined in 2011. Since the beginning of 2024, other countries have joined BRICS.
