The Iranian embassy described the accusations in a statement as “media fabrications and a big lie aimed at harming the friendly and historical relations between the two countries (Mexico and Iran),” affirming its outright rejection of them.
Meanwhile, the Mexican authorities issued a statement saying they “do not have any report regarding an alleged attempt against the Israeli ambassador in Mexico.” In a joint statement from the Mexican Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Security, they “reaffirmed their readiness to maintain fluid communication with all accredited diplomatic missions in our country.” The Ministry of Security stated it “renews its coordinated and respectful cooperation, within the framework of the country’s sovereignty, with all security agencies that request it.”
This came after the United States accused Iran on Friday of attempting to assassinate Israeli Ambassador Einat Kranz Neiger in Mexico. An American official stated that the plot has been foiled and poses no current threat.
In turn, Israeli Channel 12 accused the Iranian Revolutionary Guard of attempting to assassinate the Israeli ambassador in Mexico a few months ago in an operation thwarted by local security services, adding that the person accused of the assassination attempt is named Hassan Izadi.
