The Ferrero Group has unveiled significant strides in its sustainability efforts with the release of its 16th Sustainability Report.

Driven by Ferrero Group’s enduring dedication to making a positive impact across its value chain, the report details the substantial progress the company has made in its core sustainability objectives.

“Sustainability is a key element of Ferrero’s long-term strategy, driving business resilience and shaping our responsible growth decisions. Despite global challenges like climate change, our commitment remains strong: to source responsibly, innovate with courage, and protect the environment for future generations. Our progress is driven by collective action, leveraging innovation, research, and development, and learning continuously to achieve measurable, meaningful impacts,” stated Giovanni Ferrero, executive chairman of the Ferrero Group.

“Throughout the 2023/2024 fiscal year, we’ve advanced our sustainability agenda. I’m especially proud of the steps towards our long-term goals. We’ve progressed in our sustainability journey while maintaining sound financial management. We are working hard on ingredient traceability and enhancing supply chain visibility, advancing our human rights commitments, and continuing decarbonisation efforts,” said Lapo Civiletti, CEO of the Ferrero Group.

Ferrero’s latest Sustainability Report showcases ongoing progress in supply chain traceability, with over 90% of key ingredients now traced back to origin. Strategic partnerships with Sourcemap and Starling have enhanced precision tracking of key commodities, achieving 97% traceability for cocoa and palm oil, and 94% for hazelnuts.

Ferrero is making strong headway towards its 2030 goal of halving greenhouse gas emissions, with notable reductions from the 2017/18 baseline.

  • Scope 1 and 2 emissions decreased by 21.7%.

  • For Scope 3, FLAG (Forest, Land, and Agriculture) and non-FLAG emissions were separated to improve carbon accounting and data reliability.

  • 90% of electricity for manufacturing and warehousing now comes from renewable sources.

With 92.1% of its packaging now recyclable, Ferrero remains committed to ensuring over 90% of packaging materials are reusable, recyclable, or compostable.

  • Significant progress includes a 13% reduction in the plastic-to-product ratio, with Ferrero Rocher boxes shifting from polystyrene to polypropylene in North America and China, saving approximately 11,000 tonnes of plastic.

  • Other initiatives include the launch of Nutella Plant-Based in jars made from 60% recycled glass and the introduction of Kinder Joy’s paper spoon.
