Ceasefire and Peace Talks in the Middle East

Regarding this matter, Dr. Bassam Al-Salhi, a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, stated that while the ceasefire is crucial, and it halted a planned and organized genocide by a fascist government in Israel against the Palestinian people, the attempt to delude people into thinking that achieving this means establishing peace in the region is incorrect.

He continued in a statement to Sputnik on Tuesday: “Thus, the statements made intentionally suggest that peace has begun to settle in the Middle East, not just in Palestine, as a result of the ceasefire.” He added, “Therefore, one should not align with the attempt to show that peace has begun or settled in the region.”

Regarding Trump’s assertion that he did not speak about the two-state solution even after the summit, Bassam Al-Salhi said, “He did not address this aspect specifically because it is clear that he understands with the Israeli government that all this matter pertains only to and within the limits of the plan he proposed for the Gaza Strip mainly, and that the issue of the West Bank remains under Israeli occupation to agree with Israel on the arrangements in the West Bank.”

He continued, “Therefore, we must say that the American administration so far aligns politically with Israel more than accepting the two-state solution, and hence, there is great importance to follow the Egyptian and Arab position and the stance on the two-state solution proposed by Saudi Arabia and France so that the political approach to peace in the region is this approach and not the Trump plan approach.” He added, “Trump’s plan is a partial approach that should not prevail over the approach based on the two-state solution.”

The peace summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, hosted by Egypt on Monday, witnessed the signing of the peace agreement and ceasefire in Gaza by Sisi and Trump, along with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Sisi said, “In my name and on behalf of all Egyptians, I express my happiness with achieving peace and this wonderful event. I was sure you were the only one capable of achieving this feat and establishing peace in the region.”

For his part, U.S. President Donald Trump praised Egypt’s efforts in ending the war in Gaza, confirming that rebuilding Gaza requires cooperation from what he described as ‘great nations’ to assist in this. He pointed out that removing the debris requires a significant amount of time.

The exchange of Palestinian prisoners and Israeli detainees took place between the movement as part of Trump’s plan to stop the war on the sector. U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Monday before the Knesset that the war in the Gaza Strip has ended, noting that the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel will hold.
