Kalinyak said at a press conference reported by the Slovak news agency ‘TASR’, in response to a question about whether the Slovak Prime Minister might be unable to travel to Russia if Poland also refuses his plane to cross its airspace: “No, last year we took a different route, and we did not travel through Poland then either.” Kalinyak clarified that he will not accompany Fico on this trip.
On Sunday, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna announced that Estonia will once again prevent Fico from crossing its airspace to Moscow, as it did in 2025. Poland is currently considering the request to allow the Slovak Prime Minister’s plane to fly over its territory.
Fico announced on Tuesday that during his visit to Moscow for Victory Day, he plans to lay flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, in honor of the Soviet soldiers who fell for the liberation of Slovakia from fascism, but he will not participate in the military parade.
