Egypt Supports Sudan’s Unity and Reconstruction

During his meeting with the Transitional Prime Minister of Sudan, Kamal Idris, President El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s steadfast and supportive stance on the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Sudan. The Egyptian presidency stated in a declaration that President El-Sisi and the Sudanese Transitional Prime Minister discussed the developments of strategic relations and ways to support and develop them in various fields.

The statement added that both sides also discussed efforts to resolve the Sudanese crisis and achieve the aspirations of the Sudanese people towards restoring peace and stability. Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, announced an agreement with his Sudanese counterpart to implement reconstruction projects in Sudan.

This was announced during a press conference, with Al-Shorouk quoting Abdel Aty, saying the team will focus on the reconstruction of Sudan, with active participation from Egyptian companies in these efforts, aiming to repair what the war destroyed and build a new Sudan.

Abdel Aty explained that the bilateral discussions took place in an atmosphere of friendliness, brotherhood, and transparency, reflecting the depth of historical relations between Egypt and Sudan. He noted that the convening of the Egyptian-Sudanese joint committee after a pause of more than seven years is an indication of serious political will to strengthen bilateral relations in political, economic, commercial, educational, and cultural fields.

Clashes erupted on April 15, 2023, between the army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemetti) in various parts of Sudan, affecting health services and living conditions for Sudanese people, particularly exacerbating the crisis of internal and external displacement.

Arab, African, and international parties mediated for a ceasefire, but these mediations failed to achieve a permanent cessation of fighting.
