Renowned director Christopher Nolan, an Oscar winner, has been appointed as the new president of the Directors Guild of America.
Nolan, celebrated for his cinematic achievements, steps into the role following Lesli Linka Glatter, who completed two terms since her election in 2021, as reported by Variety.
Having been an active member of the DGA and serving on its national board, Nolan regards this position as a significant “honor” in his career. He expressed appreciation for Glatter’s leadership within the Guild.
“Our industry is undergoing significant transformation, and I’m grateful to the Guild members for their trust. I also extend my thanks to President Glatter for her guidance over the past years. I’m eager to work with her and the newly elected Board to secure vital creative and economic protections for our members,” Nolan stated according to Variety.
Nolan’s presidency is notable as it is uncommon for a director of his stature to lead the union at the peak of their career. He received two Oscars for his work on Oppenheimer in 20923.
He is acclaimed for directing a series of successful films such as Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Inception, Memento, Tenet, Dunkirk, and Oppenheimer.
Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, promises an epic adventure, slated for a July release by Universal Pictures, the studio behind his Oscar-winning Oppenheimer.
The Odyssey boasts a star-studded cast, including Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Elliot Page, and more, with Matt Damon leading. Currently in production, it will be the first major film shot entirely with IMAX cameras.
