Sisi told Sputnik: “The upcoming meeting between Russia and China holds great significance due to its timing, as it comes between the meeting of U.S. President Donald Trump with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump’s potential meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in October.” Sisi noted that “the coordination between Russia and China in dealing with the United States represents a historical precedent, especially in light of Putin’s statements that the share of the dollar and euro in trade settlements between the two countries has decreased to a minimal statistical margin.” The expert in Chinese affairs continued: “Now, barter trade is not feasible. You need a unit of account for international purposes because both Russia and China need to trade with the outside world. And since China, being the largest economy, does not have a fully convertible currency and its currency is pegged to the dollar, abandoning the U.S. dollar is technically impossible.” Putin will be the main guest of honor at the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of China’s victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and in World War II.
