A crew of four astronauts is completing final preparations for their commercial space flight mission with SpaceX, marking the first private space excursion. The astronauts are equipped with new suits developed by the company and are gearing up for launch aboard an upgraded spacecraft.
The launch is scheduled for February 8th at 07:38 GMT from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, using the Crew Dragon spacecraft owned by SpaceX. This will be the fifth mission for the private space transport system but presents the most significant risks to date. The previous launch attempt, set for last month, was postponed just hours before takeoff due to a minor helium leak in ground equipment.
SpaceX has successfully resolved the leak issue, but later U.S. regulators paused Falcon 9 launches due to a failure in another mission, which caused a delay for Polaris. Now that restrictions on Falcon 9 flights have been lifted, the Polaris mission is ready for launch, although weather forecasts from the U.S. Space Force indicate only a 40% chance of favorable conditions.
