Quinton de Kock, South Africa’s opener, marked his return to international cricket with a decisive century, leading his team to an eight-wicket victory against Pakistan in the second ODI in Faisalabad on Thursday.

After reversing his retirement decision and rejoining the international scene following a two-year hiatus, De Kock scored an unbeaten 123, securing an easy win at Iqbal Stadium and leveling the three-match series.

South Africa achieved 270-2 in 40.1 overs, effortlessly chasing Pakistan’s 269-9 from 50 overs.

De Kock formed a significant 81-run partnership with teenager Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who added 46 runs, setting a strong foundation.

The crucial second-wicket partnership of 153 runs off 137 balls with Tony de Zorzi, who made 76 off 63 balls, was pivotal for the victory.

De Kock’s 22nd ODI century came in 96 balls, and alongside captain Matthew Breetzeke, he led his team to victory with nearly 10 overs left.

Pakistan, opting to bat first, struggled at 22-3 in the fifth over. However, half-centuries by Saim Ayub (53) and Salman Ali Agha (69) resulted in a 92-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Mohammad Nawaz contributed a career-best 59, helping the hosts reach a competitive score after their narrow two-wicket win in the first ODI on Tuesday.

Left-arm seamer Nandre Burger took 4-46, while leg-spinner Nqaba Peter achieved career-best figures of 3-55, making them the standout bowlers.

The teams will face off in the series decider in Faisalabad on Saturday.
