The list of signatories included prominent directors such as the Greek Yorgos Lanthimos, American Ava DuVernay, American Adam McKay, and British Mike Leigh, as reported by ‘Israel Hayom’ on Monday. The petition was also signed by international actors, including British Olivia Colman, Josh O’Connor, Zbabba Asidu, as well as American Mark Ruffalo and Cynthia Nixon.

The signatories affirmed that ‘The International Court of Justice has recognized a real risk of genocide occurring in Gaza, and that the Israeli occupation and apartheid system are illegal.’ They pointed to decisions by the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court demanding that Israel provide basic services and urgent relief to Palestinians and issued arrest warrants for Israeli officials accused of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.

However, according to the petition, there is continued disregard for international decisions, through the closure of crossings and the prevention of humanitarian aid, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis and famine in Gaza.

The signatories concluded by affirming their commitment ‘not to engage in any collaboration with Israeli film institutions, including festivals, cinemas, production, and broadcasting companies,’ calling on all workers in the global film industry to join this initiative.

From October 7, 2023, until September 8 of the current year, it has resulted in the deaths of approximately 64,000 Palestinians and around 163,000 injuries, according to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza.
