In Dubai, an Asian man has been sentenced to three years in prison, fined Dh100,000, and will be deported after being convicted of using his bank account for money linked to drug trafficking.

The court also seized his account balance and imposed a two-year ban on money transfers or deposits for others, either directly or via intermediaries, without UAE Central Bank approval, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior.

According to case documents, Dubai’s General Department of Anti-Narcotics received credible intel about four Asian men involved in drug use and storage in Bur Dubai. Acting on a warrant, police raided the location, finding heroin, scales, and narcotics distribution tools. More drugs were discovered in one suspect’s vehicle.

During questioning, one suspect revealed sourcing drugs from an Asian supplier, while another confessed that sales proceeds were deposited in a UAE bank account. He also admitted drug use. Authorities linked this account to the defendant, who claimed he lent his bank card to help someone, denying knowledge of its use for drug money.

The court rejected his defense, holding him accountable for the illegal funds and allowing his account’s misuse. Convicted of possessing and benefiting from drug proceeds, the ruling emphasizes the UAE’s intensified crackdown on financial networks tied to narcotics trafficking.

The verdict clearly signals that those enabling illegal activities, even indirectly, will face severe legal consequences, underscoring authorities’ efforts to dismantle both supply and financial networks in drug-related crimes.
