The UAE news agency (WAM) reported on Tuesday evening that Major General Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan was received by Lieutenant General Khaled Al Jarrah Al Sabah, Chief of the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army, and Major General Pilot Sabah Jaber Al Ahmed Al Sabah, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army. This visit is part of strengthening military and security cooperation between the UAE and Kuwait, aiming to exchange expertise and enhance the combat readiness of the armed forces in facing regional challenges.
The agency noted that Major General Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan was accompanied on his visit to Kuwait today, during which he discussed strengthening military cooperation with the Kuwaiti Chief of Staff and his deputy, by Matar Hamed Al Neyadi, the UAE Ambassador to Kuwait, and several senior officers from both sides.
It is noteworthy that on August 2nd, the diplomatic advisor to the President of the UAE, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, sent a message on the 35th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait on August 2, 1990. Gargash emphasized on the ‘X’ platform that the invasion and brutal occupation of the sister state of Kuwait marked a pivotal awareness moment for a whole generation in the Arabian Gulf. We learned that the homeland comes first and foremost, not to be deceived by slogans, and to rely on Gulf solidarity as the true support.
It is noted that Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait was an attack launched by the Iraqi army on Kuwait on August 2, 1990, during the era of former President Saddam Hussein. The military operation lasted two days and ended with Iraqi forces taking over all Kuwaiti territories on August 4. Then a puppet government was formed under the leadership of Colonel Alaa Hussein, and on August 9, 1990, the Iraqi government declared the annexation of Kuwait to Iraq and canceled all international embassies in Kuwait. The Iraqi invasion of Kuwait lasted for 7 months and ended with the liberation of Kuwait on February 26, 1991, after the Second Gulf War.
