Dubai Metro Blue Line: Traffic Diversion Updates

With the construction of the Dubai Metro Blue Line accelerating across the emirate, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled a major traffic diversion at Centrepoint Metro Station.

During ongoing construction, the entrance to the multi-level parking from Airport Road is now closed.

Drivers are advised to use Exit 1 for access to new parking areas. To streamline passenger flow and alleviate congestion, taxi stands previously at the station’s front have been moved to 49C Street, behind the car park.

RTA urges drivers to follow on-site signage and plan their routes ahead to avoid inconvenience from the diversions. The authority also recommends considering alternate routes.

The adjustments at Centrepoint come after earlier diversions at Creek Metro Station, also impacted by the Blue Line project. RTA emphasizes these measures ensure safety and minimize congestion during construction.

Blue Line Project

The Dubai Metro Blue Line is a key transport infrastructure project designed to expand the network and improve connectivity between residential areas, business centers, and major transit points. Once completed, it aims to ease the burden on the Red and Green Metro lines and cut commute times.

This iconic expansion covers 30 kilometers with 14 stations, adding 28 trains to the network, bringing the total to 78 stations and 131 kilometers.

The Dh20.5-billion project is poised to generate over Dh56 million in profits, carrying an expected 200,000 riders in 2030, increasing to 320,000 by 2040.

The network will transport 46,000 passengers per hour in both directions, anticipated to reduce traffic congestion by 20% on its routes. The new line connects nine key districts across the city — Mirdif, Al Warqa, International City 1 and 2, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City, Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, Dubai Creek Harbour, and Dubai Festival City — projected to house over one million residents, according to the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

Travel times along the route are expected to range from 10 to 25 minutes.

The Dubai Metro Blue Line will feature 14 stations, including three interchange stations: Creek Station at Al Jaddaf on the Green Line, Centrepoint Station at Al Rashidiya on the Red Line, and International City 1 Station on the Blue Line, along with the iconic station at Dubai Creek Harbour. The line will have nine elevated and five underground stations.
