The third event of the Dubai Racing Carnival on Friday delivered precisely what the series has been known for since Meydan racecourse opened in 2010: a series of commanding victories that promise an exciting season ahead.
From Antonio Fresu’s victorious return to the strategic brilliance of reigning champion trainer Musabbeh Al Mheiri and a flawless hat-trick by Bhupat Seemar and Tadhg O’Shea, the night was filled with high drama and set several early-season Classic benchmarks.
The highlight of the evening was Italian jockey Antonio Fresu, who made his mark in the UAE before moving to Southern California in 2023. Returning to Dubai for the Christmas period, he quickly asserted his dominance in the Carnival.

Riding the underdog El Nasseeb, Fresu executed an expertly timed ride to win the Listed Al Garhoud Sprint (sponsored by Al Tayer Motors), outpacing a field filled with international talent, including Dubai Golden Shaheen champion Dark Saffron and two-time American graded stakes winner Mufasa.
“I reviewed all his races, and he performs well when fresh, but lacks the initial speed of those extremely fast horses,” commented Fresu.
“I aimed to conserve ground around the bend and let him loose when he was ready. Once he changed leads, he gained another gear, finishing impressively. I believe he’s a remarkable horse, so let’s see what the future brings for him.”
