Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a new system that reduces vehicle inspection time from 17 minutes to just seven. This drive-through AutoCheck 360 platform uses 26 cameras to capture 40,000 images of a car, ensuring it is roadworthy for UAE streets.
The current RTA system evaluates vehicles based on nine criteria. With the introduction of AutoCheck, AI technology will handle all necessary inspections.

“We’re employing computer vision, various sensors, and laser technology to assess vehicles from multiple angles,” said Musad Al Hammadi, Director of the Licensing Systems Department at RTA. “NPR technology will verify vehicle identification, including history, make, and model. An automated roller will also test vehicle emissions.”
How it works
A 360-degree arch with 16 cameras performs a quick scan of the vehicle as it passes, detecting scratches, dents, and other issues. A specialized scanner at the end of the track examines tyre health, checking for defects and damage. The sidewalls, manufacturing date, and size are thoroughly inspected. “Previously, cars were lifted and manually checked,” Musad explained. “Now, the entire process takes just 15 to 20 seconds with technology.”
Musad noted that the system undergoes rigorous testing to ensure accuracy. “We aim for healthier vehicles, leading to safer roads,” he stated. “These cars are on the streets, directly impacting people’s lives.”
The system began testing in the third quarter at an Al Wasel testing center in Jaddaf. Minor adjustments have been made, especially considering weather changes. “By year’s end, we’ll know when it can expand throughout the emirate,” he added.
Once fully operational, AutoCheck 360 can inspect around 7,500 vehicles daily or 2.3 million annually.
