The official spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, confirmed on Saturday evening in a statement on his official social media page that the call discussed the follow-up of the outcomes of the virtual summit held on September 15th at the invitation of Macron to discuss the latest regional developments. He explained that these developments included the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and the Israeli aggression against the State of Qatar. President Sisi expressed his appreciation for his French counterpart’s initiative to call for this summit, which aimed to explore ways to de-escalate the region.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy mentioned that the call also discussed the ongoing preparations for a scheduled meeting next Monday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The importance of this conference was emphasized as a pivotal step towards recognizing the State of Palestine, implementing the two-state solution principle, and establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

President Sisi called on countries that have not yet recognized Palestine to take similar steps to President Macron’s intention to recognize the State of Palestine, supporting the international path towards ending the conflict and achieving stability. Macron is set to deliver a speech officially announcing the recognition of the State of Palestine, and he will be joined by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman via video in presiding over the international conference for peaceful settlement and implementation of the two-state solution.

The “New York Declaration” was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly with a majority of 142 votes in favor, 10 against, and 12 abstentions. The declaration, supporting the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, is the result of an international conference hosted by the United Nations and organized by Saudi Arabia and France last July to discuss the ongoing decades-long conflict. It is worth noting that the two-state solution is a political proposal aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by establishing two independent states: a Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, alongside the State of Israel, in line with the international community’s vision.
