Egypt Warns of Dangers from Ongoing Escalation in the Middle East

In a statement made yesterday, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt alerted the public about the risks associated with the continuous escalation in the Middle East, which could potentially broaden the scope of the conflict. The warning came during a meeting between President Sisi and the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, along with a delegation that included the EU Special Envoy for the Middle East Peace Process.

The discussions primarily focused on the situation in Gaza and the broader Middle Eastern context, addressing Egypt’s intensive efforts alongside its partners to resolve issues concerning the exchange of prisoners and to establish a ceasefire aimed at alleviating the humanitarian crisis facing the residents of Gaza.
Fahmy explained that the talks were directed at ensuring compliance with the two-state solution, which could pave the way for peace, stability, and development in the region. He noted that President Sisi emphasized the responsibility of the international community and the European Union to exert significant pressure for an agreement that would halt violence and escalation in the West Bank, as well as bring an end to hostilities in Gaza, ultimately aiming to ease regional tensions and restore security and stability.

Additionally, Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdel Atti, clarified during a press conference with his Danish counterpart Lars Løkke Rasmussen that Egypt’s stance is unequivocal, firmly rejecting Israeli statements.
