Egypt’s Efforts on Economic Stability and Nile Issues

During a press conference held by the Prime Minister following a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, he explained that the government is working on stabilizing prices and increasing wages to reduce the economic gap in the coming period. He noted that US President Donald praised the decline in crime rates in Egypt, describing this praise as significant positive publicity and an important endorsement from the leader of the world’s largest country, which enhances the efforts of the Ministry of Tourism to double the number of tourists.

He added that Egypt is well aware of the challenges, affirming that the dam filling did not affect Egypt, and the goal is to reach an agreement with Sudan and Ethiopia to manage the dam, considering the Nile River as a shared resource among the three countries. He emphasized that “Egypt will not compromise on its historical rights to Nile waters nor on any drop of water that reaches it.”

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty had confirmed the previous Tuesday his country’s rejection of Ethiopia’s unilateral measures regarding water issues. During a press conference with his Dutch counterpart in Cairo, Abdel Aty stated that “Ethiopia’s irresponsible unilateral actions have led to the flooding of lands in Sudan.”

The Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation issued a statement the previous Friday regarding the Nile River flood for the year 2025, indicating that “the unilateral management of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, which violates international law, poses a direct threat to the lives and security of the downstream countries’ populations.”

Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Hani Sewilam, also explained the consequences of the Nile River flood, which began several days ago with a significant increase in water flow. Sewilam explained in his briefing before the Cabinet that this negatively affected the brothers in Sudan, pointing out that “one of the reasons for this increase in water is due to the unilateral Ethiopian actions that Egypt has repeatedly warned against.”
