Egypt’s Suez Canal Losses & Global Impacts Discussed

Abdel Aaty added, during his speech at the Aswan Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development, that Egypt’s losses exceeded 9 billion dollars due to a sharp 60% drop in navigation imports through the Suez Canal artery. He pointed out that the number of daily transiting ships decreased from about 72 container ships to 29 – 30 ships, which directly affected the canal’s revenues and both the national and global economy.

The fifth edition of the Aswan Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development kicked off today, Sunday, in Aswan city, under the theme: “A World in Change, A Continent on the Move: Africa’s Progress Journey amidst Global Transformations.”

The group has been launching attacks on Israel and ships associated with it, the United States, and Britain in the Red Sea since November 2023; in response to the Israeli war in the Gaza Strip, which has resulted in the death of approximately 59,000 Palestinians and about 140,000 injuries from October 7, 2023, until July 17 of this year, according to the Ministry of Health data.
