Emirates Film Festival Opens for 2026 Submissions

The Emirates Film Festival (EFF), the UAE’s pioneering independent film festival, has commenced submissions for its 12th edition. Filmmakers worldwide are invited to submit their short films through the new website, emiratesfilmfest.com.

Embracing a fresh era, this year’s festival highlights local talent while extending its global reach. The 2026 edition will shine a light on the UAE’s dynamic creative scene alongside diverse voices in cinema globally.

“The Emirates Film Festival transcends being just a platform; it’s a movement to empower regional and international storytelling,” stated Amal Bint Mubarak, COO of EFF. “This year’s campaign demonstrates our dedication to inclusivity, originality, and establishing the UAE as a cinematic arts global hub.”

Established in 2013 as an initiative for Emirates Group staff—many being flight crew passionate about film—EFF started as a grassroots platform for emerging storytellers. It has since grown into a fully independent festival with an increasing global presence.

Now formally licensed, EFF has undergone significant rebranding, featuring a new identity, revamped website, and enhanced operational framework led by experienced film professionals.

For the 2026 edition, submissions are expected to exceed 1,000, with a notable increase from Emirati and regional filmmakers. A panel of esteemed industry experts will oversee the selection, with finalists announced in April 2026. Comprehensive details on categories, eligibility, and deadlines can be found on the official website.

EFF’s 2026 vision is deeply rooted in regional storytelling but remains open to global contributions.

“We emphasize stories from the UAE and the Arab world, yet we welcome voices from Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas, and beyond,” said Ronald Awa, Founder of EFF. “The festival, born from grassroots efforts, is now poised for global recognition.”

Beyond film screenings, the festival aims to build connections among filmmakers, media, and cultural institutions.

With its renewed identity and expanded vision, EFF remains committed to promoting storytelling that represents the UAE’s creativity, diversity, and growing global cinema influence.
