Erdogan and Sonko Discuss Gaza and Global Issues

This came during a press conference held today, Thursday, in the Turkish capital, Ankara, with Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, where both sides discussed the ongoing developments in the Gaza Strip, in addition to regional and international issues of mutual interest, according to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency.

Erdogan emphasized that his country will continue to fight to stop the genocide against Palestinians in the region, adding, “We have always praised Senegal’s brave and resolute stance against Israel’s injustice.”

He added, “Senegal has not turned its back on our brothers but extended a helping hand and stood by them, also supporting the initiatives we launched at the United Nations. Since 1975, it has chaired the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.”

The Turkish president continued, “As two brotherly Muslim countries, our voices are heard more strongly today in international arenas,” adding, “Those who condemn the children of Gaza to hunger and death will not escape accountability.”

The residents of Gaza Strip suffer from unprecedented levels of hardship, with UN organizations warning of widespread famine and a rising number of deaths resulting from malnutrition, especially among children, the sick, and the disabled.

Since October 7, 2023, until the current August, the war on Gaza has resulted in the death of more than 61,000 Palestinians, in addition to around 151,000 injured, according to Palestinian Ministry of Health data.
