A military court has sentenced Faiz Hameed, the former chief of Pakistan’s influential Inter-Services Intelligence agency, to 14 years in prison for charges such as breaching state secrets and abusing authority, as announced by the army on Thursday.

Hameed, who served under the tenure of the imprisoned ex-prime minister Imran Khan, was also found guilty of “engaging in political activities” and causing “unjust loss to individuals,” according to a statement from the army’s media wing.

The accusations against Hameed include abuse of power and unlawful raids on a private real estate company’s businesses, as per Supreme Court documents from 2023.

The role of intelligence chief is regarded as the second most influential position within the Pakistan military.

“Following extensive and meticulous legal proceedings, the accused has been convicted on all charges and sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment by the Court, as declared on December 11, 2025,” the statement read.

Hameed was a dedicated ally of Imran Khan, who was removed from his position through a no-confidence vote after losing support from key military figures, experts note.

Once a potential candidate for the esteemed position of army chief, Hameed opted for early retirement a few months after Khan was deposed.

Subsequently, he faced accusations of “multiple violations” of the Pakistan Army Act and was stripped of all military ranks.
