A viral video on social media captured thick smoke rising from the ship near the collapsed bridge. The Baltimore Fire Department reported that the incident, which occurred on Monday evening, was caused by an explosion on board the ship. They noted that fireboats were able to control the situation, according to American media sources. Rescue teams managed to evacuate the 23-member ship crew without injuries, while emergency teams worked to tow the ship to a designated emergency docking area. It is noteworthy that the bridge near which the incident occurred collapsed last year following a collision with a massive container ship, leading to the deaths of six individuals and halting navigation in the area for several months.
