Rosatom stated in a statement: “On October 13, 2025, the first container transport voyage from China to Europe via the Northern Sea Route reached the British port of Felixstowe, after departing from Ningbo port on September 23.” A ship carrying approximately 25,000 tons of shipping containers entered the Northern Sea Route on October 1. After unloading its cargo at the Felixstowe port, the container ship will head to other European ports.
Rosatom added that “the voyage through the Russian Arctic took 20 days, which is nearly half the duration it used to take with traditional southern routes.” Rosatom mentioned that the aim of the plan is to create a sustainable transport corridor, which includes the implementation of advanced logistical and technological solutions to enhance transport efficiency and develop capital projects in the region.
Likhachev, following the second meeting of the subcommittee on cooperation in the Northern Sea Route under the Russian-Chinese Committee for preparing periodic meetings of the heads of governments, held in the Chinese city of Harbin, stated: “A new record in container shipping volume will certainly be set. Last year, it was less than 180,000 tons, but this year it is likely to exceed 400,000 tons, more than double. It’s not just the quantity that’s increasing, but the volume of shipments transported is also growing.”
