Gaza Faces Food Shortage Crisis Amid Humanitarian Aid

The World Food Programme stated in a release that “at least one-third of Gaza’s inhabitants go days without food,” noting that “half a million people in the region are on the brink of famine.” On Wednesday, Egypt announced its support for Gaza through the Rafah border crossing as part of its ongoing humanitarian aid to Palestinians amidst the deteriorating conditions in the besieged area. According to Egypt’s Al-Qahera News, hundreds of trucks loaded with aid have headed to Gaza in a coordinated operation, carrying food, medicines, medical supplies, baby formula, tents, as well as generators and water. These efforts are part of Egypt’s official and popular initiatives to provide urgent medical and food aid to the region’s population facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. Residents of Gaza are suffering from unprecedented levels of hunger, with UN organizations warning of the spread of famine and increasing deaths due to malnutrition, especially among children, the sick, and the disabled. From October 7, 2023, to August 5 this year, more than 61,000 Palestinians have been killed, in addition to approximately 151,000 injured, according to Ministry of Health data.
