In statements to ‘Sputnik’, he confirmed that ‘the museum represents an important pillar for cultural tourism in Egypt’, noting that ‘the unique experience offered by the museum, in terms of museum displays, restoration techniques, and the use of technology, will enhance Egypt’s position on the global cultural stage.’ Ghoneim explained that ‘efforts to restore artifacts are ongoing, whether for pieces imported from abroad or those in the museum, as restoration is a preventive measure to preserve Egyptian heritage.’

Egypt officially opened the museum last Saturday, with kings, princes, heads of states, and governments among the attendees. The museum was temporarily closed the following two days before it began receiving the public today.

The Grand Egyptian Museum is the largest museum of ancient Egyptian antiquities in the world, spanning about 500,000 square meters and housing more than 100,000 artifacts, most notably the complete collection of King Tutankhamun, displayed in full for the first time since his tomb was discovered in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor in 1922.

Egyptian authorities hope the new museum will boost tourism, expecting it to attract around seven million visitors annually, potentially adding approximately 30 million visitors by 2030.
