The figures published by The Athletic for the first time amazed sports fans in the United States, a country known for its reliance on cars and one of the three host nations for the tournament alongside Canada and Mexico. Parking at the quarter-final match in Kansas City on July 11 will cost ticket holders $125, while parking for group stage matches is priced at $75.

FIFA, which used flexible pricing for the first phase of ticket sales for the tournament, had ticket prices for attending group stage matches starting at $60. Only a few of the 16 stadiums in the United States have offered their parking tickets for sale online as of Tuesday.

Mexico City, which will host the tournament’s opening match, and New York/New Jersey, which will host the final, are among the cities that have not yet made parking available.
