Rubio stated to reporters: “Regarding the oil and gas pipelines, the exemption has been extended for a year.” He added that “immediate cessation would cause significant damage to the Hungarian economy.”

Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced that energy supplies from Russia through the “Turkish Stream” and “Druzhba” pipelines to Hungary will continue.

In a related development, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced that the Hungarian company “MVM” is in talks with an American company regarding a contract to purchase two billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas over five years.

He said at a press conference broadcast on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s YouTube channel: “MVM is negotiating with an American company… to sign a five-year contract to supply approximately two billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas. This amounts to a total of 400 million cubic meters annually.”
