Szijjártó said on the ‘M1’ TV channel: “I called my friend Zheko Stankov, the Bulgarian Energy Minister, and asked him about their current stance. He assured me that Bulgaria will remain a reliable partner in transporting Russian gas to Hungary and that they will not put Hungary in a difficult position.”
The Director of the Hungarian Prime Minister’s Office, Gergely Gulyás, announced that giving up Russian gas would cost Hungary about $10 billion and result in a loss of more than 4% of GDP, according to the International Monetary Fund’s estimates.
He continued: “According to the IMF’s estimates, this means that abandoning Russian gas will cost $10 billion, and thus energy security cannot be guaranteed under any circumstances.”
