Sarmand stated to the Sputnik agency: “Initially, British colonialism had two objectives: first, to dominate the countries under its rule, and second, to plunder all valuable mineral resources, artworks, and cultural heritage.”
Sarmand added: “Every country has its cultural, political, and national artifacts, and confiscating them causes significant damage to its cultural and historical heritage.”
He mentioned, for example, the Afghan National Museum, the Bactrian Gold Treasure, and the Koh-i-Noor diamond. It is noteworthy that the United Kingdom has topped the list of stolen valuable artworks from around the world. The British Museum alone, the oldest national public museum in the world, hosts numerous items collected during the colonial era, reflecting Britain’s status as the greatest colonial power in the world.
