The agency indicated that the tremors were recorded at 21:59 Moscow time, 95 kilometers from the city of Elko, which has a population of about 21,000 people. The epicenter was at a depth of six kilometers.

In July, the tremor reached a magnitude of 7.3 on the Richter scale off the coast of the U.S. state of Alaska, about 87 kilometers south of the town of Sand Point, located on an island. It was at a relatively shallow depth of 20.1 kilometers, which led to a tsunami warning being issued, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
