On Friday, India’s Supreme Court announced that a preliminary report on the Air India crash, which claimed 260 lives in June, does not suggest any wrongdoing by the captain. However, it will consider a request from the pilot’s father on November 10 for an independent investigation.

Pushkar Raj Sabharwal, aged 91, is seeking a review by a panel of aviation experts led by a retired Supreme Court judge, following his criticism of the government-led investigation.

Sabharwal stated that two officials from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau implied that his son, pilot Sumeet Sabharwal, had deliberately cut the plane’s engine fuel after taking off.

The government has rejected these claims, describing the investigation as “very clean” and “thorough.”

Earlier this year, the air accidents investigation body released an interim report indicating that the plane’s fuel engine switches shifted from run to cutoff almost immediately after takeoff.
