IndiGo has refunded Rs 6,100 million following extensive flight cancellations across Indian cities, reports India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation.

The ministry has also instructed IndiGo not to levy additional charges on passengers rescheduling their impacted flights. IndiGo has established special support units to aid passengers in rebooking or securing refunds.

During the IndiGo crisis, passengers noticed a significant increase in airfares from other airlines seeking to exploit the situation by charging high fees for alternative routes. In response, the Indian ministry imposed a cap on airfares to curb price hikes. All airlines must adhere to the new fare regulations.

After the disruptions that left passengers stranded, IndiGo flights are gradually resuming. On December 5, just over 700 flights operated, but by December 6, this number rose to over 1,500 flights.

Amidst the turmoil, passengers who lost luggage can expect delivery within 48 hours, as stated by the Indian ministry on December 7 at 5pm IST. By December 6, over 3,000 bags had been returned to passengers in India, the ministry confirmed.

A control room, established early in the disruption, continues to monitor airport conditions and assist passengers.

“The aviation network is swiftly restoring to full normalcy, with all corrective measures in place until operations fully stabilize. Further updates will be provided as necessary,” the ministry stated.
