The Ministry of Civil Aviation in India has instructed IndiGo to promptly process all outstanding passenger refunds for cancelled or disrupted flights by 8 PM on December 7, 2025.

Airlines have been told not to impose rescheduling fees on affected passengers, with non-compliance leading to regulatory actions.

“IndiGo is required to establish dedicated support and refund teams, actively engage with passengers, and ensure automatic refunds until operations return to normal. The Ministry also mandates locating and delivering separated baggage within 48 hours. Enhanced oversight will be implemented to minimize passenger inconvenience, focusing particularly on senior citizens, differently-abled individuals, and urgent travelers,” stated the ministry.

In reply, IndiGo promised to issue full refunds for bookings cancelled between December 5 and December 15, “without any questions.”

“Following recent developments, all refunds for your cancellations will be automatically processed to your original payment method. We will waive all fees for cancellations or rescheduling requests for travel between December 5, 2025, and December 15, 2025,” they stated.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused,” they added, with IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers issuing a video apology, detailing “three steps to address the situation.”

The Ministry has also imposed a cap on airfares of other airlines amid the cancellation crisis, after passengers faced high costs for last-minute bookings.
