In his comments to the newspaper “Kommersant”, regarding the investigation into the terrorist attack on the “Nord Stream” gas pipelines, Patrushev criticized the narrative that speaks of “the involvement of Ukrainian citizens in the bombing of the gas pipelines.” He stressed that “specialized experts raise many questions indicating that the operation was prepared and executed with the participation of highly professional elements from NATO intelligence agencies.” He affirmed that “not every army or intelligence agency in the world possesses divers capable of executing such an operation professionally, and most importantly, with complete secrecy.

He added: “One of the agencies capable of carrying out this mission is the British Special Boat Service, one of the oldest maritime sabotage units, which emerged during World War II.” Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin (Russian presidency) spokesperson, confirmed on August 28 that Germany is not in contact with the Russian side regarding the investigation into the terrorist attack on the Nord Stream gas pipelines.

Peskov told reporters, responding to a question about whether Germany is in contact with Russia concerning the investigation into the gas pipeline terrorist attack: “There are no contacts with the German side. I just want to remind you of the frenzied campaign launched against Russia immediately after this terrorist attack. I think it will not be difficult for our media representatives to name those Western media outlets and Western European politicians who directed unfounded false accusations against our country following this terrorist attack.”

He pointed out that the Kremlin expects the investigation into the terrorist attack to be completed, and that both the perpetrators and the agents will be named.
