Grossi wrote on his account on the “X” platform: “Today in Cairo, I agreed with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on practical means to resume inspection activities in Iran. This is an important step in the right direction.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated during a press conference following the signing of the agreement that “Iran expects the International Atomic Energy Agency to fulfill its commitments under the new cooperation agreement responsibly.” The minister was quoted as saying: “Cooperation is not a one-way street; the International Atomic Energy Agency also has specific commitments towards Iran, and we expect it to fully adhere to them while maintaining its neutrality, independence, and professionalism.”
On July 2, Iranian President Masoud Bazeshkian issued a decree to implement a law suspending cooperation with the agency, and following this decree, agency inspectors were expelled from the country. At the time, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi noted that “despite the country’s decision to suspend cooperation with the agency, the avenues for cooperation are not yet closed.”
