Netanyahu published a new tweet on his official account on “X” this Saturday evening, confirming that the Israeli army has retrieved the body of Idan Shtefi from inside the sector.
Netanyahu explained that “in the special operation carried out by the Israeli army and the Shin Bet in Gaza, the body of Idan Shtefi was returned. After completing identification procedures at the forensic institute, it was allowed this evening to announce his return to Israel.”
The Israeli Prime Minister confirmed on Friday that what he called “the battle to recover the hostages will continue without interruption,” clarifying that the army retrieved two bodies from Gaza, and work is underway to identify one of them.
Israel is looking to reach a comprehensive deal that guarantees the return of those held by the “Hamas” movement in exchange for ending the war on the Gaza Strip, under five principles outlined by Netanyahu: the removal and return of all captives, disarming Gaza, imposing Israeli control over it, and establishing a civilian administration not affiliated with Hamas or the Palestinian Authority.
From October 7, 2023, to August 21, 2025, about 62,000 Palestinians have been killed, in addition to approximately 157,000 injured, according to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza.
