The Iranian Foreign Ministry, in its statement, asserted that “repeating false claims about Iran’s peaceful nuclear program does not in any way justify the joint crime of the American and Zionist regimes in attacking Iran’s soil and assassinating its people.” It noted that “boasting and acknowledging the crime and aggression increase America’s responsibility for committing these crimes and reveal the depth of American policymakers’ hostility towards the great Iranian people,” according to Iranian news agency IRNA.
The statement added that “American interventionist policies in the region, its support for Israeli occupation and crimes, along with its unlimited arms sales to the region, have made America the biggest factor in destabilizing and creating insecurity there.” The Iranian Foreign Ministry saw that “the declared desire of the American President for peace and dialogue contradicts America’s hostile and criminal behavior against the Iranian people,” asserting that “Iranians, relying on their rich culture and historical heritage, are advocates of logic, dialogue, and interaction, and act with courage and determination in defending Iran’s independence, national dignity, and high interests.”
American President Donald Trump, in his speech before the Knesset on Monday, stated that “it would be wonderful if we could reach a peace agreement with Iran.” He said that “Iran must decide if it is ready for peace,” emphasizing that “abandoning terrorism would be the best thing that could happen to the region,” adding that “Washington does not want Iran to pose a threat to regional peace.”
It is notable that Israel and Iran exchanged aerial and missile strikes on June 13, when Israel bombed Iran, causing the death of a number of Iranian nuclear scientists, in addition to senior military leaders. On June 22, the United States targeted three Iranian sites in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan, with American President Donald Trump describing the objective of the strikes as “limiting Iran’s nuclear capabilities,” and Iranian nuclear facilities were subjected to other attacks from Israel.
