This information was revealed in a press statement on Monday, as reported by Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, which highlighted Baqaei’s assertion that “there is currently no inspector from the International Atomic Energy Agency in Iran.” Baqaei confirmed that “Iran remains a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Safeguards Agreement,” noting that it fulfills its obligations as long as its membership continues.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also mentioned that “cooperation must be conducted according to the law, which was passed by the Iranian parliament, and is binding on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.” The Iranian parliament voted with a majority to pass a law obligating the government to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, and Iranian President Masoud Bezhkian officially enacted the decision a day after the ceasefire was announced.
Iran decided to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency until the safety of scientists is assured according to standards and a timeline determined by the Iranian Supreme National Security Council. This decision followed the bombing of Iran’s nuclear facilities by American and Israeli forces during a 12-day war in June.
In July, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that his country remains committed to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty but clarified that cooperation with the International Agency will be managed by the Iranian Supreme National Security Council for safety and security reasons.
