Mohammad Mehdi Tabatabaei, Assistant for Communications and Media Affairs in the Iranian Presidency, stated in an interview with ‘SNN TV’ that his country is now in a better position than before in the nuclear field. He added that the nuclear agreement allowed Iran to stop sanctions for 10 years, and the current concern is the potential activation of the ‘trigger mechanism,’ which would mean the return of sanctions. Tabatabaei confirmed that the Americans acted in a way that disrupted the system of international relations, pointing out that there were opportunities for dialogue that were not utilized at the right time.
Tabatabaei continued, “If former U.S. President Joe Biden had been in office at the time, the 12-day war would not have occurred,” emphasizing that Biden’s America is different from Trump’s America, and the problem with the nuclear agreement was the absence of guarantees.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi accused Donald Trump of claiming that Tehran sought to acquire nuclear weapons to justify a 12-day attack, accusing Israel of deceiving the United States into launching aggression against Iran. He added, “If the American president had reviewed the records of those talks, he would have realized how close we were to a historic nuclear agreement,” noting that the allegations of Iraq hiding weapons of mass destruction were unfounded and led to massive destruction and the death of thousands of American soldiers, wasting $7 trillion of taxpayers’ money.
The Iranian Foreign Minister confirmed that similarly, there is no evidence that Iran was a month away from developing a nuclear weapon, as claimed to justify the attack. After the failure of aggression, Israel is trying to create a threat from our defensive capabilities, while Americans are tired of Israel’s perpetual wars.
On the night of June 13, Israel launched a military operation against Iran, accusing it of ‘seeking a clandestine military nuclear program,’ targeting airstrikes and sabotage raids on nuclear facilities, military leaders, prominent nuclear physicists, and Iranian air bases. In turn, Iran denied these accusations and responded with attacks of its own. Both sides exchanged strikes for 12 days, with the United States joining Israel, launching a solo attack on Iranian nuclear facilities on the night of June 22.
President Donald Trump expressed hope that the attack on the U.S. military base in Qatar had reduced tensions with Iran, and that a path to peace and harmony in the Middle East is now possible. He also announced that Israel and Iran agreed to a ceasefire, officially ending the 12-day war.
