This was reported in a press statement on Monday, conveyed by Iran’s Tasnim News, which noted Baqaei’s confirmation that “currently, there is no inspector from the International Atomic Energy Agency in Iran.” Baqaei affirmed that “Iran remains a member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Safeguards Agreement,” indicating that it fulfills its obligations as long as its membership continues.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also indicated that “cooperation must proceed according to the law approved by the Iranian parliament, which is binding for the Foreign Ministry.” The Iranian parliament had voted by majority to pass a law obligating the government to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, and Iranian President Masoud Bazeskan issued a decision to implement it officially one day after the ceasefire announcement.
Iran decided to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency until the safety of scientists is secured, following standards and a timetable set by the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, after its nuclear facilities were bombed by the US and Israel during a 12-day war in June.
In July, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that his country remains committed to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, but he clarified that cooperation with the international agency will be managed through the Iranian Supreme National Security Council for reasons related to safety and security.
